Padlý anděl, jenž vystoupil ze stránek komiksu Sandman Neila Gaimana, se vydává na svou vlastní epickou cestu v cenami ověnčené sérii scenáristy Mikea Careyho.
Od té doby, co se vzdal trůnu a opustil peklo, tráví Lucifer Morningstar své dny dohledem nad značně zredukovaným personálem v Luxu, nejelitnějším piano baru v Los Angeles. Nicméně pracovní nabídka, jaká se naskytne jednou za věčnost, brzy ukončí jeho poklidný důchod. Předloží mu ji přímo samotný Stvořitel, a pokud Lucifer úspěšně splní svůj úkol, bude si moct stanovit vlastní cenu. Vyjednávání na tomto tenkém ledě mezi příležitostí a katastrofou však bude vyžadovat veškerou jeho legendární rafinovanost a vůli – a nemalou dávku obětavosti. Ovšem nikoliv nutně jeho vlastní.
